It must be summer because no one is outside.
It’s 114 degrees Fahrenheit today in Scottsdale, Arizona. No one should be outside today. And yet, there are, hundreds if not thousands of people outside, right now, in this heat.
Some are working. There was a crew here just this morning to remove the remains of the 20-year-old Agave from my front yard, trim a couple of trees and get ready to pour a little more cement over the dirt. It was sad to see the plants go. I’m not thrilled about the cement. I finally relented and we’ll fix the problem in a boring (and cheap) way instead of installing the art feature of my dreams. Oh well.
And others are homeless. This is something that weighs on me, this problem of homelessness that for some reason we as a civilized society cannot solve, yet we have no problem putting 750,000 people up for a weekend when Waste Management hosts the TPC Golf tournament and there’s a football game in town.
