Trying new things means stepping out of your comfort zone. The new thing doesn’t have to be big or dramatic, it can be as simple as trying a new flavor of ice cream. But it’s still uncomfortable. What if you don’t like it? Can you return it? Can you exchange it for something you know you like and get back into your comfort zone?
I’m trying something new, and a little scary. This change might rub you the wrong way, and you might decide this is too much outside your comfort zone to continue down this path with me.
Writing is my jam. I write all kinds of stuff. I write for other people, I write for myself. I write essays, memoirs, poetry, songs, content, letters, and posts. I’ve turned medical research and notes into a language people can understand and use to make their lives better. Taking other people’s tangled words and smoothing them out to find their groove is a gift and I cherish each experience.
All along I was writing my own stuff and putting some of it out there. Submissions, guests posts, podcasts - there is so much of it I don’t know if I’ll find it all again. Platforms and websites have come and gone, been bought and sold, and evolved. Pieces of my work may be lost forever. Bummer. Some of it was really good.
But, I wasn’t only not keeping track, and I wasn’t sharing it with you. The only way you would know if I’d published anything was if you were following me. And quite frankly, that really wasn’t a thing, following people, when some of this work was published.
When I started putting together another book at the beginning of April I realized I wasn’t doing what I coach my clients to do with their content - use it as many ways as you can.
Most of my work ‘out there’ lives behind paywalls. That means if you want to read the content you have to pay for it. This is through a subscription to the hosting site, and it gives you access to everything written on that site. Like on Medium; if you subscribe to Medium you’ll read all of my work behind the paywall, and everyone else’s work that lives there too. And, if you use this link to subscribe to Medium, you’ll be supporting my work. Thank You! ❤️🌱🙏
I realized I could offer a way for you to read all of my work out there, even the stuff behind the paywalls without having to subscribe to many different places to read my work. Your inbox would be overwhelmed and it could cost you upwards of $1,000 in annual subscriptions.
Instead, you can now subscribe to this newsletter for a small monthly cost. Think of it as buying lunch once a month. Not a big investment, but worth the time. You know how much fun we always have together!
For just $7 a month you’ll receive my monthly newsletter, plus all this:
Access to essays, stories, and more that I’ve written over the years but lives behind paywalls. Paid Subscribers will receive Friends Links to these pieces. Like getting a backstage pass at the best concerts - for free!
New stories in your inbox. Once a month I’ll be releasing at least one new chapter of my latest work in progress. This will come in the regular monthly newsletter - so I’m not clogging up your inbox! - but only subscribers will be able to open this content. Subscribers will also receive codes to get the whole book for free when it’s published!
Episodes of the Write Speak Play podcast.
Excerpts from previously published books. I’ll also include discount codes and free ebooks.
Access to the locked content on my blog.
The Hard Stuff, as I call it, will also be behind the paywall. These essays, stories, and poetry come from my Red Flags or Flowers project. I call this my Qualitative Research project, where I am writing my stories of Transgenerations Dysfunction, Narcissistic Abuse, and Sexual Trauma, and holding space for other women to share their stories too. Because I believe when women tell their stories, we change the world, even if it is only just a few words at a time.
Due to the nature of this work, I feel it is best kept to those who choose to read it. Subscribing to my newsletter is your acceptance of the terms and understanding this work can be triggering for some. It’s been both triggering and therapeutic for me to study and write about it. I hope it will help others discover, research, and design their own path through circumstances beyond their control into a life they desire to live.
It’s what I’ve been working on too.
I’d love to hear from you. Like and comment on the posts that stick with you the most, for whatever reason. I’m sharing my stories to connect all the dots of my life as I experience endings and new beginnings. I’d like to hear how you’re journey is going too.
